Billy Hui – Artistic Director

Billy HuiBilly Hui is a musician, entertainer and presenter known for his work locally and internationally since 1988.

He regularly performs at live events in venues such as Studio 2 @ Parr Street and The China Palace plus is seen regularly as the musical director for shows in the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton. He also performs and entertains for Variety Club events. Classically trained on the piano, Billy’s style is now more contemporary with a particular passion for songs from the shows, jazz and pop. Billy has also had many years experience in the radio industry starting out in hospital radio during the mid-1980s leading to various roles including presenting the weekday breakfast show on Soul FM UK and nowadays, he can be heard on BBC Radio Merseyside’s Orient Express programme. As a result of his experience broadcasting and entertaining, Billy has also regularly acted as compere for live events in local venues such as the Liverpool Lighthouse, The Adelphi Ballroom and St George’s Hall.

Alongside his work in the entertainment industry, Billy has always taken time to participate and engage with community groups. This has been demonstrated with various voluntary work and also winning a Rotary Prize for service to the community. He regularly presents talks on Chinese Culture and local Chinese history in museums, schools, nurseries and to local groups such as the WI. Billy has also participated in a 2 year Intereg IIC funded project called the Four Cities Project which studied communities by involving people from deprived areas in the four European cities of Liverpool, Belfast, Dublin and Brussels. The result was the production of a best practice guide to community participation with the aim of catalysing the process of providing a voice for under-represented and excluded communities.
